Semantic Concepts: Measures

Kees Woestenenk, 2012-07-19

A Measure is a Concept that defines how Values of a Property should be interpreted. In most situations this interpretation is by means of a Unit, but Measures without a Unit, or with the Unit 'one', do exist, the Property Value is then called dimensionless. A Measure can be regarded as a family of Units, with Units of the same kind that can be converted into each other.

A Measure is defined by its associated Units.

A Measure may be associaded with several Units, with the constraint that these Units can be converted into each other. For example inch and mm are both Units that can be associated with a Length Measure, because 1 in = 25.4 mm (exactly) as defined in the SI system.
